Panafest – or thePan-African Historical Theatre Festival – is an event held annually in July in the city of Cape Coast, Ghana, West Africa where Ghanaians officially welcome citizens of the African Diaspora back home to the Motherland to learn about her culture and embrace their ancestral roots.
ABOUT CAPE COAST
Cape Coast, a coastal town that is part of the Gulf of Guinea, holds a special place in the history of the African Diaspora as it is home to Cape Coast Castle, a former slave fort which now serves as a historical musuem, and all visitors from the Diaspora are encouraged to visit and tour this landmark. It is from places like Cape Coast that millions of the ancestors of present-day Black Caribbeans and African-Americans were sent away from Africa.
Visitors to Panafest will experience some of the best traditional cultural experiences Ghana has to offer as it is during this festival that musicians, dancers, craftsman and even chiefs and political leaders from all across the country converge on the Cape to properly welcome their distant relatives.
